Leadership

The was how I knew I wanted to be

I designed the Flower Slay Flower Sale fundraiser to develop peer awareness & help LGBTQIA+ youth experiencing homelessness. Sitting alone with a basket of purple burlap flowers felt like a Russian folk tale, but I was inspired by the support from classmates and faculty.

I wanted to become president of the LGBTQIA+ Club to provide support for medical students, amplify a voice for all of our future patients, and connect two communities I care about most.

I organized a special guest physician lecture: “Transgender Fertility” with a top fertility doctor I met at a gender identity conference. Our leadership board became a strong, unique team dedicated to meaningful activism in the community.

Passion & Advocacy

Kindness and honesty have a dynamic relationship that is sometimes mistaken for being at odds with each other. However, the kindest thing we can do is to be honest.

We grow by sharing our truths and investing time to show kindness to others. Even if that just means a simple night of painting, we can bear witness to someone else's journey of becoming.

For me, that meant organizing and leading activity nights at a local safe house for women and children, and volunteering with my LGBTQIA+ community at outreach events.

Collaboration

Criticism is highly valuable along this journey. I welcome opportunities to understand how I can improve. Even if it comes from a place of hate or fear, I have faced adversity throughout my life and am stronger for it.

Working together comes naturally to me because I always see the good in others. I find ways to help by approaching a challenge with ideas. For instance, I created a GI unit for Mini Med School and took initiative to creatively problem-solve during coordination of the project.

I am respectful, prioritize equality, and recognize brilliance where it is present. I initiated the Amazing Leader and Ally Award for our LGBTQIA+ club to identify distinguished proponents of true health equity in Las Vegas.
